Most people assume B2B advertising means LinkedIn. Some of the best B2B results we have produced came from Facebook and Instagram, because business owners and decision makers scroll there too, often at night when nobody is guarding their attention.
But B2B social ads fail all the time. Here is why, and what the campaigns that work do differently.
An accounting firm roll-up. The client was acquiring other accounting practices. That is about as narrow and relationship heavy as B2B gets. In five weeks on Meta:
Full numbers: accounting firm roll-up case study.
A medical device company. Selling to clinicians, not consumers. The campaign brought in 357 practice leads in 74 days, 175 in the first 30. Full numbers: medical device case study.
A business funding company. Five campaigns split by industry vertical produced 12,765 leads at a $4.48 blended cost per lead and 329 live call transfers in four months. Full numbers: funding company case study.
If your ad uses generic consumer language, the platform shows it to consumers. "Save money on your energy bill" reaches homeowners. "Cut refrigeration load and protect your operating margin" reaches the plant manager.
Write in the words your buyer uses in meetings. The algorithm reads your ad, and the comments and clicks it gets, to decide who to show it to next. Specific professional language is targeting.
B2B buyers are not one person. A pediatrician and an ENT have different days. A veteran business owner and a restaurant owner have different reasons to need funding.
For the medical device campaign we split the ads by specialty: pediatricians, family practice, urgent care and ENT, each speaking to that provider's exact frustration. For the funding company, the veteran segment had its own creative and hit $1.75 per lead. One generic ad would have averaged those segments into mediocrity.
A business owner scrolling at 10pm is not booking a 45 minute demo off a cold ad. Give them a small next step: a short form with three or four qualifying questions. Then follow up fast, by phone, before the interest fades.
The form is also your filter. Ask about company size, role, timeline or revenue so your sales team only talks to people who can buy.
The platform matters less than most people think. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and now ChatGPT ads can all put you in front of decision makers. LinkedIn has precise job title targeting but usually costs far more per lead. What decides whether a B2B campaign works is the targeting logic in the creative, the qualifying questions on the form and the speed of the follow up.
Social ads tend to fit when:
Yes. Decision makers use Facebook and Instagram like everyone else. B2B campaigns we have run on Meta include an accounting firm roll-up, a medical device company and a business funding company, each with published results.
No. LinkedIn offers job title targeting but is usually more expensive per lead. Meta, YouTube and TikTok can reach the same buyers at a lower cost when the creative is written in the buyer's professional language.
It varies widely by industry and deal size. In our published campaigns it ranged from $1.75 for one funding segment to $22.62 for accounting firm owners. A higher cost per lead is fine when a single deal is worth thousands.
Expect the first weeks to be testing. In the accounting campaign, cost per lead fell 46% over five weeks of testing different hooks.
