Let me be straight with you. No honest agency can guarantee results. Your market, your offer, your budget and your sales process all play a part. Anyone who promises you a specific number before they've tested anything is selling you a feeling.
What an agency can promise is how it responds when something isn't working. Here is how we handle it at Secret Agents.
"It's not working" means three different things, and each one has a different fix.
This is a creative or targeting problem. The ads aren't stopping the right people, or they're reaching the wrong ones.
The fix: test new hooks, new angles and new audiences. Look at which ads get watched past the first three seconds and which get skipped. Rewrite the losers, put more budget behind the winners.
This is almost always a follow up problem. The leads are being called too late, or not at all. Someone who filled out a form three hours ago has moved on. Someone who waited three days has hired someone else.
The fix: speed to lead. Call within minutes, or use an AI voice agent that calls back in seconds and books the qualified ones. Tightening the qualifying questions on the form also helps, so your team calls the right people first.
This is an offer or sales conversation problem. The right people are showing up, but they're not buying.
The fix: an honest look at the offer, the price and what's happening on those calls. A good agency will tell you what it's seeing, even when the answer is uncomfortable.
We launched a campaign for an energy company that sells to businesses. The first version flopped. The ads talked about lowering your energy bill, and the platform showed them to homeowners. Wrong buyer entirely.
So we rewrote everything in the language the real buyer uses at work: plant efficiency, operating margin, refrigeration load. Same product, a completely different audience. The lesson: when an ad reaches the wrong people, the fix is usually the words, not the budget.
Not a vague "we're optimizing." You should get four answers:
We grade every campaign green, yellow or red, so you always know where it stands.
One losing ad shouldn't sink your month. Every campaign launches with several hooks, so the data shows quickly which angle works. In one employment law campaign, a single video ended up driving 79 of a month's 87 leads. If we had launched only one ad, there's a good chance it wouldn't have been that one.
Sometimes the honest answer is that the offer isn't right for paid ads yet: the price is too low to absorb the cost of a lead, or there's no one to call leads back. A good agency says so instead of burning your budget for another quarter.
Honest ones don't guarantee results, because results depend on your market, offer, budget and sales process. Be cautious of anyone who promises a specific number before testing.
Usually because leads aren't contacted fast enough, the form isn't filtering for buyers, or the offer or sales conversation needs work. Check how quickly each lead is called back first.
Identify which stage of the funnel is breaking, change one thing at a time, and report what failed, what changed, when the next test goes live and what success looks like.
Give it enough time to test several hooks and audiences. The first weeks are for learning which angles work. Judging a campaign on its first few days is like judging a new hire on their first morning.
